Oto. I don’t remember Minami at all, but I like her. She’s a much better leader than Haruka.
Pon. A potato with a face drawn on it would be a better leader than Haruka. How don’t you remember her, though? She’s always been there. She was always carrying a lacrosse stick around as her characterization prop.
Oto. I guess she hasn’t made any kind of impression on me until now. Now she’s one of my favorites. And that has nothing to do with her MyAnimeList picture. Okay, maybe a little. That tie, man.
Pon. I’m not as hard on this show as some people have been (like, how good do you need the animation to be in a damn slice of life situation?), but I do feel pretty ambivalent about it sometimes. I think part of it comes from being generally tired of this idol stuff. I’m ready to move on.
Oto. I can’t say I’m tired of it quite yet. Not as much as you seem to be at least. We have been watching them nonstop so I can’t really blame you. I’ve generally liked them all so far. Sans that bit of Idolm@ster we do not speak of.
Pon. Well, it has to do with my … material conditions. I also started watching Aikatsu, and, like …
The rest of these shows look feeble, man. It’s a different kind of thing, so it’s not that fair to compare them. I realize that. I can’t hold everything to the lofty standard of Johnny Bepp, but …
Oto. So your favorite is the little girls’ show that’s actually made for little girls?
Pon. Yes. It feels more … genuine? I don’t think that’s the best way of putting it. I still haven’t seen that much Aikatsu.
Oto. I’ll buy it. Kids’ shows seem to have more fun with all this shit.
Pon. Maybe that’s part of it. Maybe it has to do with the atmosphere, too. I’m okay with sentiment and cheesy lines, but there’s a time and place for it, right? The show has to create the right environment for it. Somehow it’s easier to stomach this stuff about binding hearts together when the show’s over the top from beginning to end. Or when there are fairies around. Or, to reference the old standby, when your cat gives you a ticket to ride the Galactic Railroad. I guess if any character’s gonna deliver those lines, though, it’d have to be Ranko. That makes a kind of sense. She’s the one with fairies on the brain.
Oto. I’m always up for some cheesy lines, especially when delivered by the chuunibyou inclined, but I get your point. Time and place are important.
